The Saint Benedict Medal: a free design resource

Saint Benedict Medal

This is a free resource for anyone who wants to use a clear design of the Saint Benedict Medal. After much searching I realized that there was no such resource on the internet, so since I have the abillity to fill that gap, I did. (In case you were wondering, this is the basic overall theme of my web site; to supply things I couldn't find on the internet).

Like the vast majority of Saint Benedict Medals in existence today, this design is based on the Jubilee Medal of 1880. But this is not the official Jubilee Medal so I did not add the text "Ex S M Casino MDCCCLXXX" ("From the holy mount of Casino, 1880") because Monte Cassino was given the exclusive right to produce the official Jubilee medal. That apparently doesn't prevent other medal producers from adding the text to their non-official Jubilee medal copies, however.

The side with the figure of Saint Benedict will look rather flat and two dimensional just like the image above, but I have seen medals with this type of design, especially ones made of stainless steel, and they don't look bad at all. The side with the cross will look great since it has always been a flat design. For those who can make use of 3-D art files, I came across this web site which has some awesome 3-D art available.

The files are SVG files which can be opened in vector drawing programs, and scaled to any size you like, from postage stamp size, to larger than a house. Although the images above are light gray on a dark gray background with a slight shadow, the actual SVG images are black with no background so you can see them. Of course you can make them any color you need.

You have my permission to use these designs any way you like whether you want to make a poster, design a T-shirt, or even produce medals.

I hope this will meet a need, and also spread devotion to Saint Benedict, and contribute to the use of the Saint Benedict medal in the world.

Just right-click on the images or text below and save the links, or if you simply click on the images, you can see the SVG files and then right-click to save them.
